Astigmatism is a common refractive error affecting about 85% of the population. It's characterized by an irregular shape of the eye, unlike the uniform curvature seen in a nearsighted or farsighted eye. Astigmatism resembles having two curvatures, one steep and the other flatter, akin to a football or egg shape.
If you have astigmatism, don't worry; there are various options for correction. Contact lenses are a viable choice for many, and glasses are an effective solution as well. Common symptoms of astigmatism include glare and halos around lights, especially at night, along with daytime blurred vision. If you experience these symptoms or haven't had an eye exam recently, it's advisable to visit your local eye doctor for evaluation.
