Robots vs LEDs vs Mirrors // Concept Design
This concept stage design had lots of iterations before I settled with the final version. The original inspiration came from my buddies at @vtprodesign, after they had acquired 6 Kuka industrial robots (the same ones that build Tesla vehicles). I was really fascinated with the concept of form and deconstruction and I wanted to figure out a way to represent those concepts live on stage. The idea came to me of creating a sort of lo-poly structure made of led tubes, each fixture section assembled onto 8’x8’ mirror platforms with a turntable rotating mechanism so that each section could spin independently. The real secret here was to utilize 2 robotic apparatuses that would dismantle the led structure, allowing the stage design to change forms and rearrange itself.

For this stage design I modeled the lo-poly leds into an arbitrary shape. If you wanted to get more conceptual you could push the form into anything you like, or have it be an extension of larger idea. Hell, you could even add a few more robots fixtures and let things get real MENTAL!

I’m really proud of how this concept turned out. There were a lot of challenges, especially figuring out the led video mapping as the structure deconstructs. The possibilities with this type of concept is endless. Crossing my fingers that one day this truly next level design has a home in the really world!
