Learn From TV Creators - How often should you release videos? - CPG Rant
TV creators have been successfully teaching audiences the rate at which content is produced for more than 40 years. If you think you're smarter than them at guessing what the audience wants, you may be missing an important aspect of the algorithm being driven by the audience in the YouTube Experience.
The reality is that taking advantage of the natural instincts of viewers around TV is in your best interest. Look to seasons, weekly or daily broadcasts -- or even the production of a glut of content all at once -- as ways to build creator loyalty.
Obviously YouTube brings funding challenges with these models; it's hard to afford to produce 12 episodes of something in advance, with no money coming in, when each episode can take up to a month to produce. It's possible that in some cases, the funding models provided by YouTube simply can't accomodate for the type of content that would be ideal to take advantage of the long-learned herd behavior from TV audiences.
And of course, YouTube isn't TV: there is more tendency towards loyalty from your audience, and so you may be able to see some success with a slower release schedule. (Every two weeks may be the right trade off to match hype vs. the tactical needs of content creation.)
But to blame everything on "The algorithm" when what you're really dealing with is an audience trained by television seasons to have a viewership half-life of 3 months, you may look like you're missing the point.
