Principles of Marketing - Media, Message, Marketing Video Summary
Understanding the 3 M’s of business your market, media, and message will take your business to the next level. You see, every single business user the combination of all of these, whether they are aware of it or not and just missing one component, can either make or break your business. Understanding the 3 M’s of marketing and applying it to your business will help you get a new perspective and bring success to your business.
I read this concept from the 7 steps to Freedom by Ben Suarez and once again saw it when I was browsing through Dan Kennedy’s stuff.
Anyways, the reason why this is so important for any business because you need every single component to be successful.
Think of it as a multiplier. Market x message x media. If anything of that is missing then you will get a big fat 0.
You need people to sell to
You need to have a message for the people
And you need to have a way to transmit that message.
Let’s start with the market. The market is the group of people that you are trying to sell to.
So if you are an ice cream business, your market is people who want to eat ice cream.
If you sell vegan ice cream, then your target market is people who want to eat vegan ice cream.
If you sell cat toys, then your market is cat lovers who want to buy toys for their cats.
Simple, right?
It’s really important that you pick a market that people actually buy instead of what they say to buy. And the easiest way to see that is to see what they actually buy.
Another thing you want to consider is the purchasing power of your market. Are they B2B clients where yo focused on a few exclusive, high paying clients or a wal-mart style of selling a lot of things to many people at a lower price.
Market research is a whole other story but it’s crucial to understand your target market to help you craft your message on how to sell them.
Message
This is probably one of the most important and hardest parts to master for any business. This is where you do the selling. This is what you advertise, what you put on your sales page, what you actually say to persuade people to buy from you.
For a door to door salesman, this is the word of mouth while if you are a writer it is called copywriting.
There are people who spend years mastering the art of salesmanship on paper which makes them a boatload of money.
Message can come in the forms of
Amazon product descriptions
A giant online sales letter why you should buy this online course
Emails to get them to buy a product.
We can all agree that finding people to sell is a lot easier than trying to persuade that group of people to buy from you.
That’s why it’s important to find the right group of people because if you try to sell dog food to cat owners, it’s probably not going to go well.
And if you write “Buy my $300 dollar course cause it’s awesome…” Not many people are probably going to buy it
Media
Direct Mail
Facebook Ads
Emails
Word of Mouth
Media is just another fancy term to direct your message to your audience.
And it’s another thing to master.
Facebook ad optimization is a lot different from crafting the message but they do go hand in hand together.
They know the ins and outs of the system and stay with the updates and know the little things that people not in the business wouldn’t think about.
It’s crucial to view your business from this perspective as it gives you another way to structure your business instead of “time to go find a product and see if it sales.”
If you put in the research and time dedicated to mastering these three components for your business your chances of succeeding are 10x higher.
