Big Boy Returns to Cheyenne
Big Boy 4014 returns from Laramie to Cheyenne WY, May 19, 2019. These clips highlight the play between Big Boy's steam, and the natural fog/cloud cover of the day.
From Laramie in the early morning, the Big Boy train (including 844) really did start out this slowly, because this was its first run of the day. Lots of steam venting, and steam effects, as they vent steam and start very slowly to clear the cylinders when starting out the first time of the day. Very dramatic departure!
These clips start at the Laramie depot, then show a high-speed run-by near Sherman Hill, a run-by from below a ridge near Otto/Borie. Finally, we have a few stills as Big Boy and 844 separate and conclude their inaugural Great Race run, and head home to the Cheyenne depot's roundhouse shops.
