Big Boy - The Great Race to Ogden Begins!
After 60 years of retirement, the world's largest operational steam locomotive, Big Boy 4014, runs again! Here are some clips of the first part of it's May 4th 2019 inaugural run, at Harriman crossing and in Laramie, Wyoming.
This massive steam locomotive Big Boy (UP 4014) has been under restoration in Union Pacific's steam shop in Cheyenne WY since 2016. It first ran again under it's own power on May 1, 2019. On May 4, 2019, the world's only operational Big Boy left Cheyenne on it's inaugural journey celebrating the 150th anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad. Along with UP's "Living Legend" steam locomotive 844, the Big Boy is shown here on the first part of it's May 4th run, at Harriman crossing, Wyoming, and in Laramie.
