A seismograph is an instrument used to measure the duration and intensity of an earthquake. It records seismic waves (which are shock waves) from an earthquake that travel through the ground.
Using the Ritcher scale/MMS scale, we can measure the magnitude of the earthquake. A Ritcher Scale is a logarithmic scale that measures the magnitude of an earthquake and can go up to a scale of 10. Both Ritcher Scale and MMS Scale are used to measure the intensity of earthquakes.
The higher the number on the MMS scale, the larger the earthquake. An earthquake can only be felt if the number is above 3. It is between 4-6 the house can shake, if it is between 7-9 it is very serious and can cause massive destruction.
