Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. It is a major contributor to fatal and nonfatal overdoses in the U.S. and, more recently, the Tanoan archipelago. Over the past few years, local police forces have struggled to control the narcotics trade. Tensions are rising, as it appears their increased income has boosted the confidence of the cartel given increased levels of crime in Tanoa’s major towns and cities. Lacking the resources for a dedicated narcotic enforcement department, the 77th JSOC has been asked to assist.
