Why so many religions are there? why so many religions.
Although most of us may be familiar with few major religions, like Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Buddhism and Jainism, that does not mean there are no other religions in the world. In fact there are thousands of religions in the world, even though many old religions have died over the time. It is estimated that there can be about 4000 to 10000 religions in the world today depending on how we define it.
But why are there so many religions?
Evolutionary theory says, religion emerged as an evolutionary adaptation. Just like there are so many languages around the world for the purpose of communication, the same is true for religion. Religions are an evolutionary adaptation for keeping groups and tribes together. As different people could be kept together in different ways, so different religion had evolved over time.
