Hydro-assist steer, Trail gear ram assist kit
I'm getting ready for an off-road trip, and I've decided that we need to install a hydro assisted steering kit to help fight the front locker and the 37" tires. Installing the kit had its little challenges, but we were able to get it installed and get out on the trail. I decided to do the steering box right, by totally disassembling it before I drilled and tapped the case for the hydraulic lines, just to make sure there wasn't any metal left inside the box which will damage the pump. One thing I totally messed up on, was not fully extending the ram before I welded it into place, I'm dealing with it. The other, even though I premeasured for the ram length, I still overshot that mark too, "dang-it!" I got the 8" ram kit, where I should have got the 6" instead. I don't know where I went wrong on that measurement, ha-ha. We took a trip up to Northern Idaho and hit a trail called the roller coaster. It's a series of man-made obstacles to give us a good test.
