Everything Feels Different | Internet Echo Chambers
Yesterday, as I casually browsed the comment section of a viral YouTube video, I was struck by a thought: each video creates its own unique universe. This phenomenon isn't new; it's been around since the Internet gained popularity. Yet, it's very real and pervasive, making it challenging to escape our own echo chambers.
This video reflects my fascination with echo chambers and serves as a warning to us all, including myself. We often live within the confines of our own minds, and confirmation bias can be incredibly dangerous for the fate of the world around us. As the Internet's influence grows, we must be even more vigilant.
To illustrate this point, I chose a topic I deeply care about: the fate of the world. This concern permeates my website, my letters, and my videos. Even the video that sparked these comments was suggested to me by YouTube's algorithm, tailored to my preferences. While I agree with the video's perspective, I am aware that many disagree. They find happiness, fulfillment, and connection in their own views, and are content with the direction the world is heading.
We must remember that the Internet amplifies our biases, and it’s crucial to seek diverse perspectives to truly understand the world.
