Building potential energy! 🚀 Our Excellerators participated in a fun activity building rockets using only cups and rubberbands!
In this experiment, one plastic cup acts as the launch tower while the other cup has rubber bands wrapped perpendicular to one another acts as the rocket. As we push down on the rocket, potential energy is built! When the rocket is let go, kinetic energy takes over and it goes flying!
Here's how it works:
Materials Needed:
Two plastic cups
Rubber bands
Setup:
One plastic cup acts as the launch tower.
The other cup, with rubber bands wrapped perpendicularly around it, serves as the rocket.
Building Potential Energy:
Place the rocket cup on top of the launch tower cup.
Push down on the rocket cup, compressing the rubber bands and building potential energy.
Launch:
Let go of the rocket cup. The potential energy stored in the compressed rubber bands converts to kinetic energy, sending the rocket cup flying!
This activity not only demonstrated basic physics concepts but also encouraged creativity and problem-solving skills among our students. Stay tuned for more exciting experiments and activities from our young scientists!
