How Strong Are 30 Year Old Slings???
Is a 30 year old sling still as strong as its rating? Well, not quite. These two Misty Mountain Threadworks slings broke in the webbing at 16 and 19 kN during our tests, a bit shy of their 22 kN rating. This isn't the lowest force we've seen slings break at, but there's also no way of knowing how strong a piece of gear is until it's tested. Just because these slings were still super good enough doesn't mean that yours will be too after 30 years. Make sure to retire your soft goods as the manufacturer recommends.
