The Rebel Alliance fleet typically engaged the Imperial Navy through hit-and-run maneuvers to not only achieve strategic objectives, but also to provide hope to those oppressed under the iron rule of Palpatine’s regime. In an effort to counter these assaults, Sienar Fleet Systems manufactured the Inderdictor-class Star Destroyer for the Galactic Empire.

Equipped with four gravity-well projectors, these cruisers could generate a gravitational force that not only prevented ships from activating their hyperdrive engines but also pulling ships from hyperspace into realspace, keeping Rebel craft in an engagement. First deployed two years before the Battle of Yavin, their high cost prevented mass production, and only a few were in service prior to the Battle of Hoth. Positioned strategically on the edge of battles, each Interdictor was armed with twenty quad laser cannons, twenty-four TIE fighters and a dozen shield generators. By the Battle of Endor, the majority of Interdictors had been deployed to the Outer Rim under the command of Grand Admiral Thrawn.
