At one with the Force, Obi-Wan found himself in a battle of memories rather than lightsabers. Years on Tatooine had taken their toll as he watched over Luke Skywalker, and he could only chuckle that Yoda remained on a planet that smelled worse than the Jedi training rooms after a combat class with fourteen-year-olds. Obi-Wan realized that he had never questioned the Jedi teachings. As he aged, these doctrines became so ingrained that he often struggled to identify his own beliefs. He found he was still ashamed at his adolescent thought of touching Siri Tachi’s hand under the table. His master, Qui-Gon Jinn, had attempted to guide him towards a more flexible interpretation of the Jedi Code, but this only made Obi-Wan determined to keep his master in line. Watching young Skywalker learn the ways of the Force with Yoda, Obi-Wan committed to becoming a beacon of wisdom that would guide the next generation away from the Jedi Order’s past mistakes.
