What are the types of breast cancer? Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast grow out of control. There are a lot of questions that women have in their mind when it comes to breast cancer. In this video Dr Jay R. Depending on the Immunohistochemistry test breast cancer is classified into four types:
1. Luminal A type: We know that the cancer is luminal A when the test result shows ER Positive, PR Positive, HER2 Negative & Low level of protein Ki-67.
2. Luminal B type: It is a luminal B type cancer when the receptors are ER Positive, PR Positive, HER2 may be Positive or Negative but high level of protein Ki-67.
3. HER2 Neu Positive: It is this type when ER Negative, PR Negative, HER2 Positive & high level of protein Ki-67.
4. Triple negative: It lacks presence of ER, PR & HER2 receptors usually this type of tumor has high level of protein Ki-67.
These are the basic types of breast cancer & depending on the type doctors decide the best suited therapy for the patient.
