When setting goals, use the SMART method:

🎯 S-pecific: When writing out our goals and objectives, it’s important for us to be as specific as possible and to tell your brain exactly where the target is. Instead of using a vague term like “a few pounds”, replace it with a specific weight and a specific plan to get there.

📏 M-easurable: Now that you have a specific goal of achieving a specific weight, you can now easily hop on a scale to measure your progress and, most importantly, know when you accomplish the goal!

🏅 A-ttainable: Going back to the goal of hitting a specific weight. Let's say 140lbs. Now to see if it is attainable we may need to look at a height and age chart, paired with a BMI calculator to accurately asses if your goal is achievable. For me, I’m a 5’7 male weighing in at 168lbs today. 140 is not an achievable goal for me.

🔌 R-elevant: Many of us can describe the feelings we are currently living in. For example, if we are looking to shed weight, we may be using words to describe ourself as feeling unhealthy, out of shape, or unattractive. Chances are, we want the opposite of those feelings like, attractive or sexy! Now, instead of trying to force ourself to hit the gym to achieve just a boring number like 140lbs, change the goal to ‘become attractive and sexy at 140lbs’ to give it emotional juice. The real key to making our goals relevant is NOT to define a goal and see if it is relevant, it is to understand what feelings or emotions are missing or conflicted and align ourself with attaining it!

⏰ T-imely: By making our goals time-based, it will help alleviate this empty feeling, it’ll also create a sense of urgency, which is key to influence ourselves to take consistent action. To make your new health goal time-stamped, just add a date to it.
Old Goal: Lose weight.
New Goal: Feel healthy, attractive and sexy at 140 lbs by June 1st!
Do you see how transformative the SMART methodology can be if you put it in to practice the right way?

SMART goals are targets that are designed to be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. They are commonly used to plan strategy and manage performance.
