This video on the fundamentals of weather and climate (FWC) discuss the absorption of solar and earth's radiation in the atmosphere. We discuss how atmospheric gases are selective absorbers and the atmosphere behaves as grey body. We also define the greenhouse effect and it's effect on the earth's average temperature. We also define absorptivity of carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane, and nitrox oxide.
This video follows Chapter II (“Energy, radiation and earth’s energy budget”) of Fundamentals of Weather and Climate and is Lecture 14 in this series.
