Craft Stunning Bubble Bath Flowers Using Bubble Bar Dough!
Learn how to make bubble bath flowers using bubble bar dough. Use the entire flower as bubble bath (except the stem)!
STAMENS: Cut water soluble paper into strips. Paint both sides with liquid color & alcohol (speeds drying + reduces ripping). Dry paper fully. Tiny balls on stamen tips: Dip tip into a liquid surfactant- then into eco friendly glitter. - or into black soap - or into black SLSa. Let it fully dry. Cut skinny strips to represent stamens. .
Roll small piece of dough into ball & add wire stem. Paint it with charcoal/alcohol. Dry fully. Use a liquid surfactant to attach stamens.
BUBBLE BAR DOUGH RECIPE: ¼ cup baking soda, ¼ cup sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (SLSa) [or a different powder surfactant], 1/8 cup corn starch, 10 milliliters fragrance oil, 10 milliliters cocamidopropyl betaine, 5 milliliters polysorbate 80 (emulsifier), 5 milliliters glycerin, & colorant (10 drops red 28 + 20 drops red 40). The liquid surfactant (cocamidopropyl betaine) is a bubble booster, foam stabilizer, & make bubbles last longer. The glycerin keeps dough pliable; without it, petals crack and break easily. But it slows drying.
DIRECTIONS: Sieve dry ingredients together. Mix wet ingredients separately. Mix wet and dry together. Thoroughly mix & knead dough. It will clump together, be very sticky, & will feel like "play doh". Dust top/bottom with [corn] starch. Roll dough but don’t work it too much. Let rolling pin/gravity do the work. Coat each petal well then place it in mold and push down to emboss and shape petal. Remove extra starch.
ASSEMBLY: Assemble flowers right after making petals. Apply thin coat of liquid surfactant to each petal to remove starch residue, soften petal (more pliable/less likely to break), and act as glue.
Cradle petal and gently bend it around base. Hold it in place until it's secure. Place 2nd petal across from first. Place next petals in center where first petals meet, overlapping so the base isn't visible. Dry 24 hours. Paint petals with poppy red mica & alcohol to diminish starch residue and enhance the red.
