Have you ever wondered how traffic lights know when to change color or how your TV knows what to do when you press the buttons on your remote? It's all down to coding. “What's coding?” I hear you ask. Coding is a way of giving a computer instructions so it can do a certain job. These instructions are called an algorithm. Coding is everywhere around us. Any electrical device that can be given an instruction needs coding. Your television needs to know when you want it to change channel, increase or decrease the volume. Your microwave needs to know how long to cook your food for and what temperature to cook it at. And, of course, your tablet and mobile phone are full of apps that need coding in order to make them work. Can you think of any other examples of coding? Look around you, coding is everywhere.
