From "Culture" to "Civilization" — The Deeper Meaning Behind Taiwan's Renaming
Have you ever considered what the difference really is between "culture" and "civilization"?
This is why the "General Association of Chinese Culture" should be renamed the "Association for the Promotion of Taiwan Civilization". Culture is simply humanity's way of life, with no inherent hierarchy of good or bad; civilization, however, represents the pursuit of the intrinsic value of "truth, goodness, and beauty."
Chinese culture, under the shadow of history and politics, has gradually come to lack the scientific spirit and respect for human rights that modern civilization requires. Now that the Association has already taken the right step by changing its English name to "Taiwan" to avoid international confusion, we should think further: should Taiwan's next step be to fundamentally break free from the shadow of old culture at the level of its core mission, and pursue a higher plane of modern civilization?
This is not merely a cosmetic change of name — it is the fundamental path to Taiwan's long-term social development.
