Towards the end of the 1980s, Casio replaced their flagship CZ-1 Phase Distortion synthesizer with the VZ-1 "Interactive" Phase Distortion synthesizer. Boasting double the polyphony and some otherwise impressive features, how does it hold up against its predecessor?
Formatting is a bit odd in this video and it shouldn't be considered "main line" at all. As noted, I will try to fit in a PC video slightly earlier than intended because other things I wanted to do for this month didn't work out and this one just happened to finish up soonest. As I want to change the room layout, I also kinda have to do this one either now or never. I wanted more footage from the menus of the VZ-1, but for reasons we'll see, this didn't happen. Doesn't help that things have gotten unstable on the PC, but this should only be a software issue that I hope to solve.

Weirdly I don't consider the VZ-1 to be a terrible synthesizer, I just don't think it's the right synthesizer for me, but I can't ignore that in so many ways it was a defeatist approach and took too many steps back for every step it took forward - it did solve several shortcomings of the CZ series, but it created a whole new set of problems that weren't necessary.
