In 1983, IBM released the 5160, also known as the XT. This was a largely unremarkable machine versus the original 5150, but soon clones of this system appeared and began to fiddle with the design. This would irreversibly change the direction of the industry.
There are so many more subjects to talk about with this machine and I think we'll have to see it again some day.
