Metahumans are known for their advanced and intricate design, but editing them in external applications like Blender can be a complex task. These characters are not only defined by their FBX files but also have numerous dependencies, including DNA files that significantly influence their behavior during animation. Fortunately, Epic Games has developed the DNA-Calibration library to edit such files. However, there hasn't been a direct way to work with this library in Blender - until now. We've bridged this gap, enabling you for the first time to adjust Metahuman neutral joint positions directly in the DNA file from Blender.
Today, I show you how to use MetaReForge with Metahuman DNA Calibration in Blender. Epic Games' DNA files are key for Metahuman facial animations, but they need Python 3.9, which isn't in the latest Blender.
Steps:
Find Blender with Python 3.9 support. Look up "blender python 3.9" on blender.community.
Install Blender: Download, extract, and rename it.
Install MetaReForge Addon: Open Blender, go to Edit - Preferences - Addons, and install MetaReForge.zip.
Link DNA Calibration Library: In Blender's preferences, set the path to the library. You can download it from GitHub (link needed) or automatically in Blender.
Copy binaries from Maya plugin and restart Blender.
Now, all features, including DNA Update, should work.
