I saw following tutorial of an ocean: • EEVEE huge real-time oceans Blender t...
and I wanted to do it too. But I did not make it exactly like that. Especially the foam I made an own way.
I also took some idea from • Large Scale Oceans in Blender with FOAM!
For the boat and the camera, I made also a lowres version of the ocean plane, attached a small plane with shrinkwrap onto that and use that plane's location and orientation to copy to the camera with some offsets. Similar for the boat.
Below the boat there is a particle system that emulates some water splashes on the edge of the boat in the water.
The barrels were a bit tricky. I got the idea to make a circular plate with bent up edges (similar to an eating plate) that I stick to the surface of the lowres ocean as described for the camera above.
One barrel is put onto this plate and gave them physics. The friction has to be very low, almost zero. Not zero itself, otherwise the barrel's physics will not make it rotate when rolling.
Each barrel got such a plate. And each plate-barrel combo got a different collision collection button set in the rigid body properties. That way, they plates do not interfere with each other.
Same would be for the barrels, but I want them to collide with each other, so I activated a second collision collection button for each barrel, this time it is the same button for all of them, so they can hit each other.
The boat and barrels models I got from places like blendswap or polyhaven I think (I do not exactly remember).
I am quite happy with the result, especially since it's done in eevee.
