India Bhutanese relations could be traced as back as 8th century, when Buddhism influence spread from India to Bhutan. Later during colonial era, the relation between the two countries was governed through the treaty signed between Bhutan and Britain. After India got independence, diplomatic relations were stabs in 1968. The basic framework of India-Bhutan relations has been the Treaty of friendship and cooperation signed in 1948 between the two countries, which was revised in February 2007. Off late India has been wary about the possibility of establishment of diplomatic relations and the signing of a boundary agreement.
