4D Printing Developed by Zortrax Engineers on Zortrax M300 Dual 3D printer
In this video, you can see a 4D demonstrator making a movement thanks to 4D printing technology, developed by Zortrax in a joint project with the European Space Agency. The model was printed on Zortrax M300 Dual with a special shape memory material developed for this project.
4D printing technology means that 3D models can change their geometry under the influence of external stimuli (e.g. structures that fold when the ambient temperature falls below a certain value, or mechanisms in which movement is activated electrically). Combining advanced materials in a dual extrusion 3D printing process on the M300 Dual opens up the opportunity to build reliable, light-weight mechanisms that can function without separate actuators, engines or control circuits which is critically important, apart from space exploration itself, also in fields such as energy production, smart sensors, and defense industry.
