Learn how to unscrew your front face plate to remove the front panel from an ordinary geniric or cheaper PC computer tower desktop case. Removing the front panel face plate on a desktop tower PC makes installing fans, CD Drives, Floppy Drives, and hard drives easier or possible since you can slide them in from the front instead of the back. With front case fans, you need to remove the front face plate to remove or install the fan in most cases.
Make sure to unplug all your cables from the front and back of your computer, and your computer is off before you begin to reduce the risk of electrical shock or damage to the computer. Also, touch a metal unpainted part like the powersupply to ground yourself, so you reduce the risk of static discharge from damaging your PC parts.
1. Get a Philips cross head, flat head, or torx screw driver depending the type of screws your computer case uses.
2. Open your computer case doors.
3. Look for screws inside the computer which hold the front faceplate in place.
4. Unscrew the screws which are holding the front face plate in place.
5. Store the screws in a safe place.
6. There may be clips at the bottom or side of your computer case which you need to un-clip from your computer case to remove the front faceplate. Be careful not to snap off or damage your clips.
7. Gently pull the front face plate panel away from your computer case. Be careful not to damage the power switch and cables for the hard drive lights which are usually connected to the front panel of many cases.
