ON5 Passive House - Mass timber office building in Vancouver
Steps from Vancouver’s Olympic Village, the ON5 hybrid mass timber building introduces the future to Vancouverites. The new four-storey building became the first office building in Canada built of high-performance cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels.
Designed to Passive House principles, this highly-innovative building incorporates groundbreaking approaches to insulative CLT assemblies and damage-resistant seismic design. Since much of the project’s wood systems were prefabricated off-site (including fully clad CLT envelope wall panels), it was erected in only 14 short days, which also minimized neighbourhood noise and disruption. ON5 will serve as a demonstration project showcasing high-performance mass timber construction and design.
A virtual model of the ON5 project was used to design the building, allowing for a project team including architects, structural engineers and subcontractors to collaborate dynamically and in the moment.
