Video 17.2: Rethinking the Definition Of Binding Domain
This video starts with the presentation of 3 cases where the definition of binding domain as the CP dominating the anaphor or pronoun is challenging. Building up Chomsky's work in "Knowledge of Language" (KOL), an alternative set of definitions are proposed. Drawing on the insight that pronouns and anaphors have different requirements, it's suggested that the binding domains for pronouns and anaphors are both different from one another and are variable in size. It's also suggested that for anaphors that definition is dependent upon the notion of potential antecedent.
