For #Week47 of my #52Songs52Weeks songwriting challenge, in honor of Thanksgiving, my assignment was to write a song about being Thankful. So I wrote a song called… Wait for it… #Thankful. Super original, I know. This song actually got its start back in 2013. It was the 2nd or 3rd song I had ever written. It was originally called “The Good Times.” And it was about reminiscing on good times had in college. It wasn’t my best work. So I decided to re-visit it. Well, a new theme, an updated melody, and a new chorus later, and my updated song was actually more of just an all new song. But regardless, new or updated, assignment completed! I really enjoyed writing this one because this song closely mirrors my own life. From the annual trips back to the Appalachian mountains with my friends. To my wife having one daughter with a son on the way. In my songwriting, I’m always storytelling, but I’m not always telling my story. So this was a nice change of pace. As an added bonus, this song comes just in time for my wedding anniversary! As always, the lyrics are in the YouTube description. Up the Appalachians, into the sun

Didn’t know it then, but it was the start
Of a journey to tame this cowboy’s heart
Fast forward to today
Dawn’s got one baby girl and my son’s on the way
And I’m thankful
