Crucifixion - History's Most BRUTAL Execution Method?
Throughout history and the centuries, there have been many different execution methods used to take the life of a condemned person. However one of the most famous methods has to be crucifixion, due to it's links to Christianity and Jesus of Nazareth. As an execution method, it was used by the Romans to punish a number of criminals such as thieves and murderers, and women were also crucified too. It was a horrific and extremely painful ordeal for someone to undergo, and it was aimed at humiliating a person too.
For a crucifixion, the guards would force the condemned to carry the cross beam of their cross through towns and cities, where they would be targeted by crowds. They then were secured to the beam using nails which were placed through the hands and ankles, and then they were attached to a vertical beam. Guards would sometimes break legs and also pierce the person with a spear to bring about death faster, but some people were left to die for days to send a message to people not to commit crimes. Some crucifixions were even carried out upside down, and it was used in Japan and an allied soldier was even crucified during the Second World War.
