Rocky orangutan released into the wild, after undergoing rehabilitation

The Bukit Tigapuluh National Park Office (TNBT) released the Rocky orangutan on Thursday (22/10) in the TNBT area. Rocky is an 18 year old male. The release was in collaboration with the Jambi KSDA Hall and the Frankfurt Zoological Society (FZS). The Avara was also witnessed by the Head of the District Police of Tebo Regency, Jambi. Also present were Riau BBKSDA, Kemuning sub-district head, Kemuning police chief, and Kemuning military commander.
The release was carried out after the orangutan underwent a period of rehabilitation. The release, which was carried out with, among others, the Jambi BKSDA and the Frankfrurt Zoological Society, was said to have gone smoothly. Rocky was rescued from the hands of the community in Meulaboh, Aceh. Rocky was taken to rehabilitation stations at the Sungai Pengian Sumatran Orangutan Rehabilitation Center and the Danau Alo Orangutan Open Sactuary. The two stations became temporary shelters where Rocky was taught to forage and survive in nature before being released into the wild. "Based on the results of monitoring, Rocky is classified as an orangutan that is good at surviving in the forest,"


Orangutans are protected primates based on the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P.106/MenLHK/Setjen/Kum.1/12/2018 concerning the Second Amendment to the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P.20/MenLHK/Setjen/Kum.1/6/2018 concerning Plant Types and Protected Animals and their conservation status according to the IUCN is Critically Endangered.
