Flint Creek Debris Removal Project Reduces Flood Risk in Hillsborough County
The Southwest Florida Water Management District has successfully completed the Flint Creek debris removal project in Hillsborough County, led by Senior Project Manager Chris Mall from the Design and Construction Management team. This vital project addressed debris accumulation caused by hurricane winds, which blocked water flow and heightened flood risks in surrounding areas. Flint Creek, a natural waterway stretching three miles from Lake Thonotosassa to the Hillsborough River, was cleared of fallen trees, limbs, and other hard debris that created natural dams and impeded water movement. The removed materials were repurposed as mulch to enhance roadways and conservation efforts. This project aligns with the District’s mission to mitigate flood risks and improve water flow for safer, more resilient communities.
