At Last - Stevie Wonder - Bass Cover - Request
Hello :)
This is the requested transcription I did of the Stevie Wonder version of the song "At Last". This come from his 1969 album "My Cherie Amour". The bass player on this track was James Jamerson.

Wow! This is one busy bass line! How did Jamerson come up with this stuff? The rhythms are insane!
I would have loved to been a fly on the wall to see how this version came to be the one that made it on the album. How many takes were there? Did they try different tempos? Did they try with James playing less?
Jamerson played a lot with open strings and at the faster tempos it becomes really important to stay relaxed and not be shifting positions too much. Open strings can offer this....use them ;)
I can hear some scale type exercises sneaking their way into some of his lines. There are some videos online that show some of his warm ups and exercises...check them out.
The rhythms in this are really challenging. It's not for the faint of heart, but I hope you'll give it a try :)
**This makes for a really good bass study/project song. I did a Bass/Drum Play Along video for practicing. It's at two different tempos.
