Gaslighting Abbie - Steely Dan - Bass Cover - Request
Hello :)
This is the requested transcription I did of the Steely Dan song "Gaslighting Abbie" from their 2000 album "Two Against Nature". The bass player on this track was Tom Barney. This transcription can be found at https://www.muzento.com under Advanced - Songs.
I really enjoyed working on this one. What a great feel and funky rhythms they used. It's such a nice line :) This song is another example of how important note length can be on the bass. It's the space between the notes makes it funky ;)
I just love how they weave in and out of the different time signatures without it sounding like that's what their trying to do. Master writers are Donald Fagen and Walter Becker.
Speaking of writing. The lyrics and mean of the song are a lot different that what I first thought the song was about. It turns out it's about a husband and his mistress trying to drive his wife crazy to get rid of her. How dark...hehe, Steely Dan eh? :)
I found I really had to stay focused, watch out for the articulations and subdivide like crazy! It's a really fun song to play along with. I hope some of you will give it a try.
