This week the WaveTalkers crew explores a community approach to interoperability. Breaking down barriers and silos of communication is key to successful interoperability during an incident or event.
To achieve the goal of interoperability, we need to start with establishing relationships and building trust with all of the key stakeholders. Amateur Radio Operators are uniquely positioned to create the link between the local community, CERT teams, and Agencies Having Jurisdiction over an incident but only if we engage with these groups and earn their trust before the incident occurs.
Approaching Interoperability from a Community Perspective and establishing vertical integration links between the various radio services such as FRS, GMRS, Amateur Radio, and Land Mobile Radio has the potential place hams in a unique role.
However, technical skills are simply not enough. We need the social skills to be truly useful and successful. We need to earn our seat at the table of each group.
In Episode 102 we will explore what you need to do before a disaster strikes to establish the relationships and links that will become essential during an emergency.
