Feeding Manatees Seagrass
2021 was a lousy year for Manatees and Seagrass. Unfortunately, 2022 doesn't look much better. But there is hope. A seagrass project was started seven years ago in Crystal River and has grown to over 200 acres of lush seagrass. Most of the seagrass will float to the surface in the winter, and new seagrass will rise again in the spring. It is like the trees that drop their leaves as winter moves in and fresh leaves grow in spring. Sea&Shoreline, along with Seagrass Save Sealife Program, has been collecting the floating seagrass bringing it to Homosassa Spring State Park, and feeding the seagrass to the rescued manatees. Not lettuce from a farm, but nutrient-rich fresh seagrass. Check out the video, and I would love to hear your view on this project.
