Whatever you call it, this technique works!
Does it look slow? Yes. It's meant to purposefully slow you down so you're taking momentary, complete breaks with every single step you take on the trail.
Because you're stacking your leg on your skeleton, you're giving an opportunity for the muscles to completely relax which will help you get up a steep incline without completely burning out your legs and lungs.
This is a closer look at how my feet work on the trail to make this happen. Depending on the trail conditions, you might take a smaller or bigger step. But as long as you have the stack, rest, step motion throughout the step, you're getting that rest to keep you moving uphill.
1️⃣Start with all your weight on your back leg. The front leg has nothing going on and your arms are relaxed.
2️⃣Straighten the front leg and move your back leg forward. This gives a moment of rest for each leg so you can have a quick moment of recovery.
💫 Try taking a breath with each step to keep that oxygen supplied to your lungs and muscles.
