The Passage: Death Valley Discoveries Ep. 9
On March 4, 2012, Steve Hall hiked into the Owlshead Mountains and discovered The Passage and Passage Canyon. The Passage is a unique narrow passageway between towering walls of decomposed granite, an extremely rare feature for that type of rock. In January of 2024, Steve carries out a return loop hike with his friend Jordan of 13 1/2 miles back to the location of this discovery. As part of this, they crossover into nearby Great Dry Fall Canyon where Steve conducts a magnetic experiment in Death Valley Discoveries Episode 9. The parking area for Passage Canyon is about 1 3/4 miles southwest of the Amargosa River crossing on Harry Wade Rd. GPS coordinates for The Passage are 35.749740, -116.604030.
