Physician Workforce Landscape
With the release of federal American Rescue Plan funding and California workforce initiatives, Community Health Centers (CHCs) have an opportunity to establish increased workforce capacity that fulfills the needs of their physician workforce while also expanding access to care. According to CPCA's 2021 Workforce Development Survey, CHCs are prioritizing obtaining financial investments that fulfill their workforce needs. In light of these findings and the recent workforce investments, the following webcast will focus on the current physician workforce landscape to help CHCs better understand the hurdles aspiring physicians encounter, to further assist CHCs with aligning future workforce investments with physician needs.

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Janet M. Coffman is faculty at Healthforce Center at the UCSF. In addition, she is on the faculty of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies. She previously worked for UC Berkeley, the US Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.
Dr. Coffman is a health services researcher who has made important contributions to health workforce policy in California and the US. She was a consultant to the California Future Health Workforce Commission and has authored numerous articles and reports on supply and demand for health care workers, geographic maldistribution, and strategies for improving racial/ethnic diversity among health professionals. Dr. Coffman’s other research interests include health care reform, access to care for vulnerable populations, and innovations in management of chronic illnesses.
Dr. Coffman received a PhD in health services and policy analysis, as well as a Master’s Degree in public policy from UC Berkeley.
