🧿 SO if you’ve birthed your human (any which way!) you may have Thought to yourself “dang those prenatal vitamins really kept my hair long and luscious!” And you may have even decided that you would rush back to them as you’ve noticed that your scalp is thinning out a bit in those first few months after the cherub has arrived
💙 but alas, you would in fact be wrong… During pregnancy your hair can be thicker because it all arrests in the same phase (as opposed to what typically happens where we have hair follicles at different phases so that there is a constant growth and loss of hair that keeps it steady). IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PRICEY vitamins!
🧿 within the first 3 to 6 months after the baby is born, the majority of the hairs that have arrested in the same phase all start to fall out at the same time and this seems to start within 3 to 6 months and seems to last about 3 to 6 months (NOT for everyone! There are certainly women who do not experienced this plight!)
💙 it will absolutely freak you out when it starts to happen (I remember at the three month mark with my first baby arrogantly believing that I had been lucky enough to avoid this entity until my hairdresser said “don’t you know that it starts between three and six months!” And don’t you know that day the flood of hair loss (a.k.a. “telogen effluvium”) started in boy was it a doozy!
🧿 take heart that it will grow back (hence the reason you see the new mamas with their wispy little baby hairs growing out of the side like a little devil horns!) And unfortunately except that it is one of natures bodily changes that we endure (one more reason for me to believe that humans who choose to birth babies and go through a ridiculous amount of shite!!)
