I watched a video by Natasa on Treasurebooks: Collage formula:
• COLLAGE FORMULA - To Make Collage EASIER
I'd never used a formula for collage before and wanted to try it out. I thought it would be fun to use the collages as covers for signatures, but then I set the project aside to work on other art and journals.
My studio was something of a mess so I tidied up and found the collage project. Newly inspired by another of Natasa's tutorials:
• Making 30 Journals in ONE GO!
I decided to finish it, except the collage pages became journal covers instead of signature covers. This way I can offer 5 interesting journals in one bundle. I am glad I waited to work on them because I think they came out better this way.
Each of the 5 journals has 32-36 pages, plus added writing spots, tags, and other additions. The pages measure 5-1/2" X 8-1/2", with the cover slightly wider. The total for all 5 journals is about 160 pages.
I am a classically trained artist of drawing and painting and think of journal making the same as any other composition - I look to create harmony, unity, cohesiveness. When I make a journal I am making an art piece and all the elements need to work together so that I usually choose to not make parts and pieces for journals ahead of time, I make custom pieces for individual journals appropriate for those individual journals.
Thank you for watching.
