The 17 HMR is an epic little cartridge, and the Tikka T1x is a fantastic rimfire rifle, such a perfect and extremely effective combination for small-game pest control.
The T1x's shoot amazingly well, like all Tikka's seem to, they have a lovely factory trigger that's easily and safely adjustable by the user. A slick action and 10 round magazine.
A super accurate rifle coupled with the fast and flat shooting 17 HMR rimfire cartridge, in this case the 17gr Hornady V-max doing 2,550 fps makes for an extremely effective pest control tool.
If zeroed at 30 yards, the secondary zero is 130 yards, meaning it's simply point-and-shoot to 150 yards on rabbit-sized game, a shot most 22lr's could only dream of.
Due to the tiny 17gr varmint projectile being very lightly constructed and the speed it's doing, you never get ricochets, which makes this cartridge a much safer choice than the humble 22lr (which has a bad habit of ricochet, even worse with subsonic ammo).
Sure 17 HMR ammo is much more expensive than 22lr, but as long as you have a solid rest, It's unusual to miss the target with a 17 HMR, even out to ranges that are simply not possible for most shooters using a 22lr.
