Welcome to my new recurring segment of "Chasing Adaptation" where I will focus on a specific adaptation to develop over the course of a few weeks, with small updates throughout the process. This is to exemplify how targeted approaches to training can produce significant results in a relatively minimal amount of time. Think of this series as my attempt to document and share the incredibly progress you can make early in the growth curve of any new endeavor.
For the first installment of Chasing Adaptation, I'll be focusing on increasing my static apnea time (breath hold). I have a current PR of just over 3 minutes, however my training has become plateaued and as a result my motivation to train has subsided. I hope that this training block will help break through my current PR, and potentially inspire other non-breathhold-athletes to increase their times anyways! Just because I don't scuba dive, freedive, spear fish, or any like-activity doesn't mean I can not benefit from this training. Let's all build bodies that can handle ANYTHING that life can throw at us, and be capable of living any experience to its fullest potential.
Huge thanks to the free resource utilized for my training this month by Freedive UK. I essentially utilized their template, transcribed it into Google Drive where I can more freely edit, and then added in some parameters for tracking physiological data from training days/sessions. The link to their initial post is listed here below:
