Many people love to have a website floating on their screen while they play a video game on the PC. SteamOS does not have this feature built-into the operating system, but a free new plugin from Decky Loader does allow it.
This will require you to have Decky Loader installed on your Steam Deck, though, so if you haven't set that up yet, then you'll need this before you can install the picture-in-picture mode plugin.
If you're not familiar with Decky Loader, then that's perfectly understandable.
I have a dedicated guide here on the channel that will walk you through how to set it up.
So go and check out that guide and then come back here when you're ready to install the plugin.
Steam Deck Picture in Picture Mode
Once you have Decky Loader installed, press the 3-dot ellipsis button here on the right side of the Steam Deck.
Then scroll all the way down until you have the Decky Loader menu highlighted.
Now, we're going to tap on the little shop icon right here.
And then do a simple search for the word picture.
That should filter out most of the other plugins that are available, making it easy to find the Picture-in-Picture mode entry.
So let's install the plugin from here and then we can begin to configure it to display any website you'd like.
And it will sit here, hovering on top of your gaming session the entire time.
There are a handful of configuration options for us to tinker with.
Allowing us to change the size of the floating browser window
And even change its position
The plugin doesn't make it easy to move the window around.
Like, we cannot tap and drag the window to another spot. At least I have not found a way to do this as of yet.
But we can always jump into the picture-in-picture settings area to change its location anytime we want.
conclusion
I have personally done this on the PC many times so that I can half pay attention to something while grinding out levels in a game.
There are also times when you may want to keep a map up on the screen while navigating through a specific game.
Whatever the use case, I can definitely understand the desire to set this up on your Steam Deck.
And I appreciate the developer making it so easy to plug in a URL here, while also giving us some simple options to move the position of the window.
Although, I am curious to see how the developer expands upon these features in the future.
