If you decide to crate train your puppy, you’ll want to make sure they associate it with relaxation and sleep.
Here’s how to crate train a puppy:
1) Get the crate ready by setting it up with comfortable bedding and a few toys
2) Add some treats and let them eat these at their own pace
3) Give them lots of praise when they go in their crate
4) Start using a cue word like ‘crate’ or ‘bed’ every time they go in
5) Once they’re confident in the crate, you can start to partially close the door
6) Try locking the door for a short period of time
Be patient and never use a crate as a punishment. Don’t disturb your dog whilst they’re in there, so they know it’s their safe space.
Make sure they always have access to fresh water and give them a toy or lick mat to ease any anxiety.
