This highly-rated “Amazon’s Choice” product by Stability Ace (soon to be Strictly Stability) is designed to be used as a night splint to help heal and relieve the pain associated with plantar fasciitis. It also works well for those suffering from Achilles tendonitis, tight calves, heel spurs, leg cramps, or in my case to prevent foot contractures from a neurologic disease that I have.
The concept is that it provides gentle dorsiflexion (lifting the foot and toes up) while you sleep. Foot and ankle pain can be severe when one wakes up and bears their body weight on the injured foot because the foot has been in a relaxed state all night. By wearing this splint at night it helps keep flexion in your ankle so when you wake up those tendons and muscles aren’t as tight as they would have been otherwise. For those needing additional flexion, two extra dense foam wedges are included. These are inserted under the pad at the end of the foot under your toe area. A bonus knobbed foot massage ball is also included!
This night splint consists of a hard but flexible outer plastic shell. The inside is lined with a thick, soft, removable, latex-free foam padding that provides a lot of comfort and support to your calf, ankle, and foot. The pad is attached via hook and loop (Velcro) and can be easily removed to be washed. The sole has a rubberized pad glued to the bottom to provide a small level of traction however the manufacturer warns to not walk or run (obviously) with this splint on. It is designed to be used during sleep only. There are three straps that help secure this splint to your foot at the ankle, foot, and shin. They “clip” via an easy to use buckle. Additional tightness can be obtained by tightening the adjustable Velcro straps.
My experience with this product was that it does what it says it will do. It kept my leg, foot, and ankle in position and was comfortable to wear. I got a size Medium based upon my shoe size however a Small would have fit a little snugger for me. My size was right on the border so my recommendation for you is if you are on the borderline, size down for a more snug fit. Construction is solid throughout. The Velcro straps are easy to adjust; the splint is lightweight and comfortable. My only gripe was that the Velcro attached to the plastic liner had the potential or want to peel off while adjusting the pad, especially when adding in the wedges. If you are careful removing the pad then this won’t happen but just something I noticed.
All in all, this is a fantastic splint to use if you are suffering from foot or ankle pain. The customer support that I received was second to none. They really care about their customers! No wonder this is such a highly rated product on Amazon. Check it out!
