A common sight on the Galle Road from Balapitiya, Ambalangoda to Gintota on the way to Galle is the "Kirala Bomu", "Kirala Juice" stalls and "Kirala Vines".(Sonneratia caseolaris,Sonneratia caseolaris, commonly known as mangrove apple, is a species of plant in the family Lythraceae. The fruit is noted for its outward similarity to the persimmon fruit.

This tree is a type of mangrove growing up to 20 m in height and with a trunk reaching a maximum diameter of 50 cm. It is present in tropical tidal mud flats from Africa to Indonesia, southwards down to Northeast Australia and New Caledonia and northwards up to Hainan Island in China and the Philippines.
The fruit of this tree is the subject of a legend of Maldivian folklore, Kulhlhavah Falhu Rani.
The tree is associated with congregating fireflies throughout southeast Asia and is the food source of moth and other insects.
The leaves and the fruit are edible and appreciated as food in certain areas, such as Maldives. In Sri Lanka, where the fruit is known as kirala gédi (කිරල ගෙඩි) in Sinhala, the pulp of the fruit is mixed with coconut milk extract and made into a milk shake. Many tourist resorts situated in the South of Sri Lanka where the trees grow abundantly alongside rivers, offer fresh fruit drinks made from the fruit. In the Maldives the fruits are used as a refreshing drink and also eaten with scraped coconut & sugar.
The tree is also sometimes known as cork tree, because fishermen in some areas make fishing net floats by shaping the pneumatophores into small floats.
As I had never drunk Mangrove apples in my life until I came to Galle, Dorm's Aunty was the first to bring Mangrove Apples and make Mangrove Apple juice.
OMG the taste.😍😋 Just like nectar. It smells like Wood Apples but tastes a lot better. It's thick.
So when I came home the family had never been drunk so I brought some Mangrove Apples. A vine is Rs.100.00.

First of all, peel the peas in half and if there are any worms inside, remove them, cut them into small pieces, add some sugar, salt and ice water and blend them until they are thick. Did the thirst go away or not ....

🍈අම්මෝ රස.😍😋 හරියට නිකම් අමෘතය වගේ. දිවුල් වලට සමාන සුවඳක් රසයක් තිබ්බාට ඊට වඩා ගොඩක් රසයි. උකුයි.
🍈ඉතින් මාත් ගෙදර එද්දි ගෙදර අයත් කවදාවත් බීල නැති නිසා කිරල ටිකක් අරන් ආව. වැලක් 100.00 යි.

🍈ඉස්සෙල්ලාම දෙකට කඩල පොත්ත ඇරල ඇතුලේ පණුවෝ එහෙම ඉන්නව නම් අයින් කරල පොඩි කෑලිවලට කපල සීනි,ලුණු,අයිස් වතුර ටිකක් දාල උකුවට බ්ලෙන්ඩ් කරල හදල ගත්තම ආයේ නෑ. තිබහ කොයින් ගියාද නෑ....
