We acquire knowledge through the process of comparison. For example, if we repeat the same word over and over again without thinking about it in relation to others, that is, differentiating the sound, syllables, etc, the word becomes meaningless. In the same way, if we stare at an object without thinking, its shape becomes meaningless. The same is true for all our physical senses. We learn through the process of comparison or differentiation.
The same is true for the queen of all sciences which is mathematics - we learn sound mathematics from well-formed concepts. In this process, comparison shifts from using the physical senses to our minds. The objects of mathematics are not physical and comparisons take place in our minds.
